Thread Loop Escape guide: how to read the weave
Core rule: a spool is removable only when no active thread lies above it at any knot the two loops share. The quickest solves come from reading the visible layer order rather than tapping every spool.
How Thread Loop Escape works
Thread Loop Escape places coloured yarn loops across a pin board. Every loop starts and ends at a numbered spool. Several loops can pass through the same knot, creating a layered weave. Higher layers visually cover lower ones, and the lower spool stays locked until every thread above it has been removed.
- Scan shared knots and identify a spool whose thread appears on top everywhere it overlaps another colour.
- Tap that spool to unwind the whole loop. If it is blocked, the game flashes one blocking knot and tells you which spool is above it.
- Repeat until the board is empty. The next level unlocks automatically and your best stars and clear time are stored locally.
How to earn three stars
Three stars require a clean solution: no blocked taps and no hints. A blocked tap adds one penalty; a hint adds two. Small mistakes still allow two stars, while repeated guessing reduces the clear to one star.
- Do not assume the highest numbered spool is always the only move. It is guaranteed to be safe in the generated dependency order, but independent loops may also be free.
- Use the visual overlap at the pin itself. The colour drawn on top is the thread that must leave first at that knot.
- After removing a heavily connected loop, re-scan the same cluster because several lower loops may become available at once.
What a blocked spool means
A blocked tap does not create a dead end. It simply means at least one active loop with a higher layer crosses the selected thread at a shared pin. The game flashes one such knot for a moment. Follow the colour on top of that knot back to its spool and try that spool instead.
When to use Hint and Undo
Hint highlights a currently removable spool for two seconds. It is useful on dense later levels where 10 or more colours share the board, but using it costs two star-penalty points. Undo restores the last successfully removed loop and does not add a penalty, so it is safe for reviewing the weave or correcting an accidental tap.
How the 60 levels get harder
The early puzzles use a 4×4 pin grid and five to seven loops. Later levels expand through 5×5 and 6×6 boards before reaching 7×7 layouts with as many as 14 coloured loops. The number of pins used by each loop also grows, which creates more overlapping dependencies and makes the visible layer order harder to track.
Mobile controls
On phones and tablets, tap the circular spool rather than the thread itself. The spool hit areas are larger than the visible discs, so precise tapping is not required. The board scales inside the game frame while the dependency logic remains identical to desktop.
Quick solving checklist
- Check the busiest shared knot first.
- Trace the top colour back to its numbered spool.
- Remove that spool, then re-check the same knot cluster.
- Prefer visual reasoning over trial taps if you are chasing three stars.
- Use Hint only after you have inspected every obviously shared pin.
